FUNDRAISING
See below for all VT100 fundraising information. Thank you for making a difference!
Overview
The VT100 is one of the largest annual fundraisers for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports. All proceeds go back to the cause.
Vermont Adaptive is empowers people of all ages and abilities through year-round inclusive sports and recreational programming. Environmental, holistic wellness, and competitive training philosophies are integrated to individuals with cognitive, developmental, and emotional support needs.
WHY FUNDRAISE
Fundraising for Vermont Adaptive has been at the heart of the VT100 for 30 years. As a race that supports visually impaired and mobility impaired athletes, we believe in what Vermont Adaptive does every day for its participants and we encourage your continued support.
From basic access to advanced instruction, Vermont Adaptive makes alpine skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing, cycling, hiking, rock climbing, running, tennis, horseback riding, wellness retreats, and more available to those who may otherwise never get an opportunity.
JIMMY’S STORY
Take Jimmy for instance:
Jimmy was a soccer player and skier in his youth, but in his teens learned he has a degenerative eye disease. His vision worsened with each passing year, and his participation in sports diminished as he learned to live as a legally blind person.
A few years ago, at the age of 40, Jimmy found Vermont Adaptive and has been able to participate in skiing in the winter, and biking in the summer. After years of struggling with his diagnosis, Jimmy is finally able to be an athlete again.
While some of us may take it for granted, moments like these mean the world to Jimmy and others like him.
Wind in his hair, fresh powder under his feet, the sounds of nature in his ears – this is what it feels like to be alive!
And these experiences translate to mental and social wins too, helping individuals like Jimmy achieve lasting confidence and a sense independence that he may have otherwise felt was too hard to reach.
Get Involved
Step up. Help make a continued difference! Your efforts positively impact the lives of people like Jimmy.
FIVE TARGET FUNDRAISING LEVELS
LEVEL 1
OFFER OPPORTUNITY. When you start fundraising, you help purchase adaptive equipment so Jimmy and others like him can enjoy skiing again. You pay for their guide’s lift ticket. You open the doors to opportunity, so Jimmy and others can carve turns on the slopes or feel the wind at their faces on a bike ride.
LEVEL 2
GIVE INDEPENDENCE. When you raise $500, you help Jimmy and others like him by funding things like a weekend-long training so that they learn how to communicate with their guides on the slopes; you help him get adaptive equipment; you help him feel the freedom of mountain biking for the first time. You give true independence.
LEVEL 3
SUPPORT EMPOWERMENT. When you raise $1,250, Jimmy and others like him are now able to participate in year-round programs… the way Jimmy could when he played sports as a youth. You allow Jimmy and others to be and feel like athletes again.
LEVEL 4
CREATE EQUITY. When Jimmy and others like him are able to participate with the proper equipment and highly trained volunteers year-round, they begin to feel equality with other athletes. The barriers break down, and they shift from a disabled athlete to an athlete with disabilities – equal to their peers in so many ways.
LEVEL 5
IMPART CHANGE. Fundraise $5,000 so Jimmy and others like him can access sports on a more long term basis. Help him and others develop true bonds with passionate and skilled volunteers. Remove larger financial barriers and see how over the years this changes Jimmy’s perception of his diagnosis; he is able to be a better husband, father, and co-worker.
OPPORTUNITY. INDEPENDENCE. EMPOWERMENT. EQUITY. CHANGE.
With nearly 400 active volunteers, plus generous partners, sponsors, and individual fundraising efforts like yours, Vermont Adaptive is able to stay at the forefront of sports and recreation for those with disabilities.
Please ask your friends and family to sponsor you in the VT100, or make your own donation to a fundraiser page. Everything counts.
More Info
In 2017, the VT100 became the world’s first ultra race and first trail race to formally recognize visually impaired and mobility impaired runners in their own awards category. While this may not seem like a huge deal, it breaks down the barrier for their participation, and allows them to run without having to ‘check-in’ with the Race Director first to ask for accommodations. It is a major milestone that is now being emulated by ultra races and trail races across the country.
While fundraising is not required for race participants, we encourage all runners to fundraise for Vermont Adaptive.
Our Top 10 Fundraisers will earn bib #1 through bib #10 for this year’s race, and with each level you hit ($150 to $5,000), we promise some good schwag!
